ENGINEERING SERVICES EXAMINATION

The engineering services examination is conducted by the UPSC every year. Recruitment is made to the 4 categories of engineering services viz.
I . Civil engineering-11 types of services
II . Mechanical engineering-15 types of services
III . Electrical engineering-13 types of services
IV. Electronics and telecommunication engineering

Assistant executive engineer in P&T building works (civil)

Assistance executive engineer (civil/mech) in border roads Engg service
9.

Indian ordinance factories service (engg. branch) (all branches)
10.

Indian railway service of mechanical engineers.
11.

Central power engg. services (mech. engg/elec-telecom posts)
12.

Indian naval armament service (mech ,Elece/electronics Engg posts)
13.

Central electrical and mechanical engineering service
14.

Assistant manager (factories), Department of telecom (mech/elec-telecom engg)
15.

Indian inspection service (mech./electrical/electronics)

More than 600 vacancies are filled every year through this recruitment to class- I cadre positions.

Eligibility:
Nationality specifications are the same as for other UPSC recruitment . Age 21-30 years as on first august of the year of writing examination. Those who are already working in the UPSC cadre can wish to upgrade, the upper limit in 35 years.SC/ST candidates have an age relaxation of 5 years and OBC candidates of 3 years.

Educational qualification :

1.

Degree in engineering from a recognized university.
2.

Pass in part a&b of the institution examination of the institution of engineers (India) or
3.

Degree diploma in engg. from recognized foreign university or institution or
4.

Pass in Graduation membership examination.
5.

Pass in associate membership examination parts II&III /sec .
6.

A and B of the Aeronautical society of India ,or
6.pass in associate membership examination, sec a & b of the institution of mechanical engineers (India) or
7.

Pass i graduate membership examination of the institution of the electronics and radio engineers held after November 1959,or
8.

Holders of M.SC degree or its equivalent with wireless communication, Electronics ,radio physics, and radio engineering as a special subjects are eligible for the certain specified engineering and electronics engineering posts.

Selection:
The examination is of two parts:
a. Written examination -100 marks
b. Personality test -200 marks
the written examination consist of
Section I Objective papers:
a. General ability test (general English & general studies)
b. 2 papers on branch of engineering chosen from among civil, mechanical, electrical, electronic and telecommunication. The objective papers of two hours of duration are valued for 200 marks each. section II-consist of 2 conventional papers covering the choosen field of engineering and of graduate level of knowledge. The papers of 3 hours duration carry 300 marks each. only those who qualify the written examination are eligible for the personality test.
