Fire Engineering

Fire engineers applies the knowledge of engineering technology to the evaluation obviation and inhibition of the fire risks within the building ,industrial houses and production plants. The fire risks is the first assessed and the safety measures implemented to prevent the fire hazards.
The profession:
Fire engineers advice the organisation on the choice of construction material, design and layout of domestic and industrial structure ,installation and handling of fire fighting devices. Safe methods of storage of inflammable material 
and procedure to be followed in case of fire outbreak. 
On the research side fire engineers conduct the intensive studies on the causes and materials of fire prevention and designing of fire resistant material the research and test of fire retardants is also the work of the fire engineer. They are also involved in the fire fighting personnel, supervision on fire fighters duty, maintenance of fire fighting stations, administering the laws to ensure safety to public property etc.
Job market:
Opportunities are available in government fire services ,architectural and building design refineries, aircraft industry ,plastic, fertilizer, textile and chemical plants ,LPG bottling units, petrochemical plants ,and such other industries where fire risks is very high ,insurance assessment and foreign investigations in the cause of fire are also the potential
areas of employment of the fire engineer.

Training Process:
In India ,the national fire service college at Nagpur offers the most comprehensive and integrated graduate programme in fire fighting.

1. Course : B.E (fire engineering)
Eligibility : B.sc in chemistry with physics or maths or both the optional.

Duration :
3 year academic study and seven month practical training in major fir stations in the country.

Age:
19-23 years as on 1st July of the year of applying. age relaxation up to the age of 5 years for industry sponsored candidate and Sc/ST candidate.

Physical Fitness: Height 165 cms;weight 50 kgs;chest 81 cms;and 86 cms expanded;vision 6/6 preferable without aid.
application should be accompanied by the medical certificate authenticating the physical fitness of the candidate.

Selection process:
election is on the basis of all India entrance examination followed by viva at the college campus. A final medical test will be conducted by the college medical authorities.

2.course:sub officers training of 33 weeks duration i.e also offered at the college. The course consist of 21 weeks of academic study and 12 weeks of practical training.

Eligibility:+2/equivalent ,ability to read, write and speak hindi and english
Age:18-23 year as on first January of the year of joining. age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST candidates physical slandered are same as for the BE programme. Height relaxation of 5 cms for candidate belonging to hilly region such as gurkhas,gharwallis,assamese, nagaland tribes etc.
Selection is on the basis of entrance examination based on english general knowledge, science and maths. set at +2 level.
