INDIAN ECONOMIC SERVICE AND INDIAN STATISTICAL SERVICE

Every year UPSC conducts an all India level competitive examination to fill vacancies in the IES & ISS.

Mode of selection:
Selection done on the basis of
a) Written examination
b) Personal interview (for candidate who qualify for the examination)

Eligibility

For IES :A master degree in economics/applied economics/business economics/econometrics from recognized university.

For ISS: Master degree with statistical or mathematical statistics or applied statistics from a recognized university.

Age: Between 21-30 years as on 1st January of the year of applying. Relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC.

The Examination:
IES:
The written examination carries a total of 900 marks And is completed in four days. The papers are

papers -1:General english : Marks-150

Papers -2 : General studies : Marks -150

Papers -3 :General economics I :Marks -200

Papers - 4 :General economics II :Marks-200

Papers -5 :Indian economics :Marks-200

The performance in written examination is the basis for selection for the interview(200 marks)

ISS :
Papers -1 :General English :Marks-100

Papers-2 :General studies :Marks-100

Papers-3 :Statistics I :Marks-200

Papers -4 :Statistics II :Marks -200

Papers -5 :Statistics III :Marks -200

Papers -6 :Statistics IV :Marks - 200

Those who are qualify the written exam are invited for the final interview(200 marks)

Features of IES/ISS examination:
Each paper is of 3 hours duration Questions are of objective and essay type. The standard for general english and general studies is of the graduate level. The level of knowledge required in the subject paper
is of the post graduate level.
