Library science refers to the principles and practice of library operation and administration and their study. A librarian work generally involves the classification, indexing, cataloguing, shelving and publication.

The profession:
library services may be of 3 kinds user service, technical service, and administrative service. In user service, librarian help the user to find the information that he needs. In administration he oversee the overall plan and working of the library, supervises his subordinate staff, organizes public relational activities, sources fresh material and prepares the budget. In the technical service the librarian concerned with procuring fresh stock and arranging them for the use of the members.

Trained librarian find employment in the universities, research universities, public and private libraries.
