PARAMEDICAL SERVICES
Paramedical services are the ancillary services that play the supportive role in the hospital scenario. The paramedics helps the doctor in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of his patients.
The profession:
Paramedical courses offer specialized training in such areas as x-ray technology ,medical laboratory technology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, ophthalmic technology, audiology and speech therapy, prosthetic and orthotic engineering and clinical child development.
X-ray technology and radiology:
involves the use of x-ray, high frequency sound waves etc. to scan the body entrails.
Medical laboratory technology:
is concern with the collection, sampling ,testing ,reporting ,and documentation of laboratory investigations.
Physiotherapy:
covers the use of exercises ,related equipment, electrotherapy ,magneto therapy, massage etc. To rebuild damage muscle ,ligaments and bones.
Occupational therapy:
trains in the rehabilitation of physically and mentally impaired person.
Optometry or ophthalmic technology:
Specializes in the treatment of disorders related to the eye.
Prosthetic or orthotic engineering:
involves the replacement of missing parts of the body with artificial structure.
Audiology and speech therapy:
Is concern with correcting speech defects .
Clinical child development:
Is concern with nutrition and treatment of growth defects in children.
Job market:
Experts in this field can find suitable employment in hospitals ,nursing home,
psychiatric clinics, rehabilitation centers ,polyclinics and diagnostic clinics.
Paramedical services are also required in r&d wing of the pharmaceutical companies and institutional laboratories.
Work with disabled:
The rehabilitation council of India conducts job oriented courses in special education for persons who wish to work with the disabled . In India there are 6 centers providing 10 month diploma courses.
No of seats in each centre is 20
Qualification is +2/equivalent. Fee : nil. A monthly stipend of 600/- is provided to the selected candidate.
