PRINTING TECHNOLOGY

The Indian printing industry is on the threshold of massive growth. This is a sector that offers immense employment opportunities for the new generation.
The print sector had hitherto employed personal who were not adequately trained to do technical jobs related to printing and publishing ,the high literacy rate .The growth of print media, the burgeoning consumer scenario and changes in printing technology have all resulted in the need for more trained hands in this sector.

The profession:
The employment opportunities for the qualified aspirant in this sector are as Machine operators, supervisors ,technicians,-at the end user level; production manager, business executives, sales promoters, at the business level, and machine manufacturers, maintenance support R&D personal-at the manufacturing level.

Training process:
Printing technology involves the three levels of training .The ITI's offer diploma course in specialized craft based like type setting, proof reading, book binding, camera operation etc .This sector of the industry has been revolutionized by the advent of computer technology. So a computer oriented training would be more useful. Then there are institutions like the institute of printing technology which offers high diploma courses to cater to the business aspect of the industry. There are also 4 year courses in printing engineering and technology where the technical aspect is kept in the focus.

Future prospectus:
with the adoption of the latest technology in this sector. There will always be a steady demand for the personal skilled in this new technology. The need for craft based workers may decline in highly automated large publishing houses. But in small publishing houses where technological upgrading is slow the demand for the less skilled workers will exist. But a proactive aspirant can keep abreast of technology and upgrade in order to seize the opportunities that come his way.

10+2 with maths, physics and chemistry.

selection is in the same manner as for other engineering programme of the respective universities. {a few seats for these course are sponsored by the industry.
Other programme:
Higher diploma and certificate programme are also available for specialized craft based trades as well as in the technical and management areas.
